OranOrange has abundant nutritional properties and is consumed worldwide. Sorting oranges of different masses based on their physical traits could help reduce packaging and transportation cost. The ‘Blood’ cultivar of Iranian oranges from Kermanshah province of Iran (7.03 °E 4.22 °N) was used in this study. 100 samples were randomly selected. During the two-day experiment, all measurements were carried out inside the laboratory at mean temperature of 24°C. Abstract: The objective of this work was to determine a suitable combination of the polysaccharide mesquite seed gum (MSG) and the protein Nile tilapia fish gelatin in the composite MSG/gelatin film for food packaging applications, and to evaluate the effect of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) on the film. MSG and gelatin were extracted from mesquite seeds and Nile tilapia residues, respectively, and the CNCs from mesquite pods by acid hydrolysis. The MSG:gelatin ratio with the best combination of tensile and barrier properties was used to produce the bionanocomposite films, by adding different CNC contents to the MSG/gelatin dispersion. This paper aimed to evaluate the effects of storage periods on the conservation of Pachyrhizus ahipa roots at different temperatures and packaging materials. The roots were harvested, washed, packed in PVC, plastic bags, without wrappings (control) and stored in polystyrene trays in refrigerators, or cold chambers, or at room temperature. Total titratable acidity (TTA), total soluble solids (TSS), pH, as well as their ash, lipid, total carbohydrate and protein (dry basis) contents were analyzed. A qualidade pós-colheita das hortaliças orgânicas depende de uma série de procedimentos que se iniciam no plantio, continuam na condução da lavoura, colheita e manuseio após a colheita. Somente com atenção a todos os passos é que se pode manter a qualidade e estender a vida útil dos produtos. Desta forma, deve-se dar atenção ao instrumento de corte da hortaliça, às caixas de colheita, à velocidade da operação, exposição ao sol e calor, remoção do calor de campo, seleção, classificação e embalagem final para transporte ao mercado. Este comunicado técnico apresenta algumas soluções práticas e de baixo custo que ajudam a preservar a qualidade das hortaliças orgânicas e reduzir suas perdas, com benefícios para o produtor e para o consumidor. |

The species displays rustic behavior, with an excellent edaphic and climatic adaptability index, being able to be cultivated throughout Brazil.
